Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 426 -- PUBLIC OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES

SPONSOR: Griesheimer (Threlkeld)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Budget by a vote of 24 to 0.

Currently, a state employee certified by the American Red Cross
as a disaster service volunteer may be granted leave with pay to
participate in specialized disaster relief services for up to 15
calendar days in any fiscal year. This bill changes the maximum
leave period to 120 hours.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that confusion among employees and
managers between 15 calendar days and 15 working days requires
statutory clarification of the maximum leave period.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Griesheimer.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
